The verse comes from the Gospel of John, in a night-time conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus, a Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews who came to ask him questions. It is one of the best-known verses in the whole Bible.

In simple words, it says God loves everyone in the world so much that he gave his Son, Jesus, so that anyone who believes in him can live with God forever. "Begotten" is an old word for a child someone has, and "whosoever" means anyone at all.

Children can color the word "loved" in red and "everlasting life" in gold, then say the verse aloud one phrase at a time until they know it by heart. A finished adult sheet also makes a thoughtful card to slip in with a note to a grandparent or friend.
